How did you develop the conventions of real media products?
For my film trailer, I took conventions from real media texts and adapted and developed them. This gave depth to my trailer, and gave it more meaning.

Firstly, the original idea for the music was to build it up slowly, like in other thriller films such as Snatch and Legend, which created tension however I developed this further so once the music completely stopped. This created even more dramatic tension, as it makes the audience wonder what will happen next. It also allows the audience to focus on what is happening when the music stops, rather than the music.
Also, I developed on the idea of the psychological well being of a human. From watching A Beautiful Mind I was intrigued at how differently the world can be seen from having a mental illness, as the main character had schizophrenia. I developed this idea into my film trailer by giving the main character a mental illness which has not been medically recognised. This emphasises the post-modern theme as it expresses to the audience that there is more out there to learn and explain. Therefore, by focusing on the mind, it gets the audience thinking intellectually.
Furthermore, I liked the long shot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 film trailer where all the characters walk towards the camera. This is bold and draws the audience in as it is not often all characters are seen at the same time. Therefore, it infers that something dramatic will happen. I developed this idea by making all the characters walk away from the camera, reflecting Tom having to walk away from his perfect past due to the car crash. I used the positioning of the cuts by making each parent walk at one time to emphasise the split in the two realities, and the past.
From the film, The Outsiders, I was able to develop the location. I liked the urban setting within this film as it emphasised the young nature of the teenage boys and their naivety, I wanted this to be reflected in my film trailer thus I used a tower at Coal House fort which had graffiti on it and was derelict. This gave my film trailer an edgy vibe and represented a stereotypical teenager.
Lastly, the Inception trailer used multiple fade to black transitions. I liked the idea of different transitions to make the trailer flow better. I wanted my transition to be unique yet still build tension, like in Inception. I used a gradient wipe which created a dramatic effect as the cut went from one to the other.
