HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR ANCILLARY TASKS?

My poster, website and magazine cover are portrayed above.
My poster is an effective way of marketing my film trailer. By placing the poster in popular places, it enhances the target audience and the brand awareness of my product. Therefore, this means more people are likely to watch my film, Distortion, as they are aware it is out. The poster also gives lots of details about when the film is out and the production team behind it. These details give the audience an insight into the fil m and may persuade them to watch more. For instance, if someone had liked “T.J.Hopson’s” previous film they will be more inclined to watch a film that he is next appearing in. Also, what is portrayed on the poster is also key. This is due to the two realities Tom faces being apparent thus the audience can see a hermeneutic code for the storyline behind the film trailer and film may bring. Consequently, the creation of a poster is a professional way of advertising my film trailer and film Distortion.
My magazine cover is also another way to advertise Distortion. This is because Empire, is a very popular magazine thus the reader must think the film is highly recommended and of excellent quality if it is shown as the main feature on such an important type of media. The bright colours and the bold fonts draw the reader in to buy the magazine and thus read the article about Distortion. This would most likely lead to them purchasing the film or watching it at the cinema, leading to an increase of revenue and consumers. The magazine cover conveys Tom in a graveyard which gives a snippet of the type of genre Distortion is and what may occur within the storyline, so the reader can gather whether the film would attract them as a target audience.
My website uses a variety of conventions to entice the audience to watch the film and buy the merchandise sold on the website. There was a shopping page included so fans of the film could buy a variety of products, such as the DVD and the watch tom wears to give them closer connections to Distortion. I used dark backgrounds for my website to create a mysterious atmosphere and to make the bright white font stand out. I made the website easy to read for the audience and eye catching to draw the audience in. I also included lots of information about the production of the film to give the audience an insight into how it was made, almost giving them a behind the scenes access.
Script:
Cross media convergence is where a media product is promoted across other media platforms. This occurs within my ancillary tasks. This is due to me promoting my website, poster, magazine cover and trailer on each product. My poster includes the link to my website and has connections to my film trailer of Distortion by portraying photos of Tom with two versions behind him. This represents the storyline of the film trailer and the film due to it signifying his two realities. The film trailer includes links to the website by showing the web link and to social media. The website shows the film trailer on the home page, making it stand out to the audience. The poster can also be bought on the website which emphasises cross media convergence by selling it. There are links between all my ancillary tasks by editing. This is due to the use of the same font (Distorted) which I found on dafont.com. This creates branding as the audience will know that the ancillary tasks are related due to the common font. I was inspired by the idea of using the same font for every product due to the Star Wars font being identified clearly. The colours I also used for all my ancillary tasks were bold and stood out, creating another link. Furthermore, each product includes a photo of Tom, the main character, thus they promote each other by linking the same character.
I also think that by producing my ancillary tasks, I form push media. This is because I am constantly showing my audience a variety of media's about Distortion, thus it will create a hype about the film, as it will be hard to miss. This is enhanced by Web 3.0 where cookies are attached if an audience watches a trailer similar to Distortion's. My poster, magazine cover, website and film trailer will then be shown to that audience due to their similar interests. This is an effective use of marketing to the correct target audience. Pull media is also used, as Ray Productions have provided a variety of media outlets, including a website and social media yet it is up to the audience to choose whether they want to read it. The audience can pick and chose whether they want to read certain pages on my website, or if they want to follow Distortion on social media. Therefore, the choices are up to the consumers. The innovations in technology have enabled the media market to transform from push media, to pull. Consequently, with the combination of my ancillary tasks I have been able to keep up with the dynamic market.
